ABSTRACT

“Vita” Glass permanently admits the passage of short-wave ultra-violet radiation. It is used in modern hospital construction (ordinary wards or specially constructed balconies where heliotherapy is practised), in sanatoria, nurseries, schools, and sun-lounges, and also for the glazing of essential rooms. As ultra-violet light is not only emitted by the sun’s rays but also reflected from blue sky and white clouds, “Vita” glass may appropriately be used in windows facing north. A Rolled Glass of a soft greenish tint, which is opaque to ultraviolet light. Its texture is that of ordinary tinted Double Rolled Cathedral Glasses. To secure the fullest advantage from the use of this glass, provision should be made for the absorbed heat to be dissipated by natural upward movement of air against the interior surface of the glass. A special amber-tinted glass which is an effective deterrent and valuable for use in buildings connected with the storage of food, is known as Anti-Fly Glass.
