ABSTRACT

There are three main processes by which the surface of glass can be worked: embossing, stippling, and brilliant cutting. Other decorative processes are: sandblasting and silvering. Artificial light directed from the edge through the thickness of a plate of glass, impinges on any sandblasted incisions in the surface of that plate, and the sandblasted lines or pattern take up the illumination, and glow in apparent independence of the source of light. Gold, as well as silver and some other metals, may be deposited electrolitically, on glass, with many beautiful results. Platinum painting is one of the processes, the metal being applied in the form of paint, to the surface of the glass, which is then fired in a kiln.
