ABSTRACT

There are three distinct types of Rolled Glass: Rough Cast, Cathedral and Figured Rolled, and Wired. In the continuous rolled process, glass is melted and refined in tank furnaces in much the same way as for the Sheet and Plate Glass processes already described. It then passes to one of several different types of machine, according to the sort of Rolled Glass it is desired to make. The feature common to all machines making Rolled and Wired Glasses is the formation of the sheet by extrusion between two rollers, mounted parallel to each other, at a distance determined by the thickness of the sheet to be made. Figured Rolled and Cathedral Glasses are largely used for partitions in offices and warehouses, when direct vision is not desired, and also for window glazing of warehouses, factories, etc., where Wired Glass or the heavier types of Rolled Glass are not considered necessary.
