ABSTRACT

Ground improvement has been extensively used in unfavorable ground conditions to improve mechanical features of the ground, such as strength, stiffness, and watertightness. Uncertainties related to a random fluctuation of improved ground property and construction errors may greatly impact the global performance of the improved ground. This chapter classifies the two types of uncertainties and provides statistical summaries of them. Risk assessment methods and results are then provided to shed some light on the impact of these two types of uncertainties. Finally, limitations and future works are recommended at the end of the chapter.
