ABSTRACT

The health care industry is considered as one of the major sectors as it reflects a country’s growth in the global market. A thriving economy is aided by a robust health care system, which enhances the average life expectancy and contributes to national prosperity. In order to foster economic progress, developing nations are recognising the impact of health and life expectancy on their nations’ economies. The health care industry comprises hospitals, devices and equipment, clinical trials, health insurance, and telemedicine., The interactions between patients and doctors were limited to physical visits to hospitals and then they communicated through phone calls and texts. Evaluating the patient’s health continuously is considered a major concern for physicians. Technological deployment offers the physicians the option to monitor the patients remotely and suggest predictive and preventive health care practices for them. It will yield benefits only when it is accessible for all people in every corner of the world. This is possible only with breakthrough technological innovation known as the Internet of things (IoT). Patient’s satisfaction has grown to a larger extent due to its effective implementation. Through this, it is proven that the duration of hospital stays is considerably reduced. IoT has an extensive influence on health care expenditures, as the prescription is examined for further analysis by the same physician or some other, and expenses are reduced. With this revolutionary innovation, the health care industry will see a significant growth in the upcoming years. IoT has undeniably reinvigorated the health care industry and extended its benefits to the patients who receive their treatment from experts around the world. Section 14.1 introduces the readers to the health care sector, market trends, and challenges. This is followed by the conceptual framework of medical IoT and its implementation. Section 14.3 focuses on major areas where medical IoT is deeply in progress. The final part of this study highlights some significant case studies where designated IoT is deployed to monitor the patients.
