ABSTRACT

The novel corona virus (that causes COVID-19) pandemic that swept the globe in 2020–2021 posed a challenging scenario for everyone. This infection outbreak gave the opportunity for the researchers and medical fraternity to adopt new technologies. The smart systems were adopted, which is based on connecting people (doctors and patients) through suitable communication networks, medical devices and instruments using sensors. The interaction between all these devices and the technological advancement in robotics has given the rise to the use robotics in the medical domain. Technology is used now to support health workers in operation theatre and clinical settings, leading to enhanced care for the patients. As technologies evolve, robots are deployed to perform certain tasks automatically. As a result, the risk of exposure remains low and health workers can focus more on patient care. In this chapter, we present various robotics technologies that can provide physical, cognitive and most essential social support for the medical community. This chapter aims to provide the various robotics technologies employed for medical applications and their impact on the current pandemic situation.
