ABSTRACT

The Industrial Internet of Things is also known as IIoT. It mainly refers to an industrial structure where many electronic devices are interconnected under a wireless network. IIoT plays a huge role in Industry 4.0 (a fourth industrial revolution of traditional manufacturing and industrial practices, using the newest technologies). One of the main aims of Industry 4.0 is to incorporate IIoT across various industries. But however, the current IIoT is liable to failures such as malicious attacks, network hacks, and other digitalized attacks, which cannot supply stable and reliable services to fulfill the needs of IIoT in an industry. Combining blockchain and the Internet of Things (IoT) can help to overcome these failures because implementing blockchain can increase the security and resilience of an IIoT system. In this chapter, we will explore diverse types of consensus mechanisms and choose suitable mechanisms for IIoT devices and networks. But however, IIoT networks require vast computational resources, also limited communication capabilities. In this chapter, we can understand how the implementation of blockchain can hugely impact IIoT networks. On the 204other hand, we can look at current consensus techniques which have been implemented and improve these techniques to prevent network failures.
