ABSTRACT

Locusts are swarming pests and they have started behaving gregariously in recent decades which turns into swarms and plagues and affects people, economy, and climate. Various species of locusts particularly desert locust (Schistocerca gregaria) are involved in causing outbreaks in regions of Africa and Asia (including India and Pakistan) and other continents which threatens multiple crops as well as human and agriculture well-being. Locusts infestations can be treated and controlled through careful planning and management at political and administrative levels and by educating farmers and local food producers. Global warming is considered the major cause of locust outbreaks in present years as warm climates support egg production and growth of locusts. The biological and ecological control is needed to combat locust outbreaks.
