ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the larger trends driving the cybersecurity domain, as well as some of the emerging technologies and new paradigms that are likely to have the biggest influence on our digital lives and consequentially the cybersecurity environment. Mobile devices and digital services proliferate, and businesses, public services as well as most individuals have become ever more connected and dependent on the digital tools and this way of life. The ‘easy-to-use’ digital services evolve not only for the law-abiding individual and business. Also the average cybercriminal, now has as easy access to cheap commercial and ‘easy-to-use’ cybercrime tools, as any individual has to lawful digital tools – a regular international cybercrime business, with professional marketing, support and even loyalty programs has emerged. In effect the result is millions of ‘bots’ or zombie computers, being removed from the tool box of cybercriminals, which again results in a generally safer www and less cybercrime, to the benefit of all its users.
