ABSTRACT

The invention of the steam engine dates back to the middle of the 17th century and it marked the early beginning of the first wave of the an industrialized world. Computers and automation started to take the center stage in the 1960´ties as the third wave of the industrialization. The Apollo space missions, which took its beginning in 1961, used mission computers, which had the same computing power as a simple pocket calculator has today. An important technology for making this a reality is cloud based computing, where experience gathering and experience based reaction is made possible everywhere. Cloud computing is defined as follows according to National Institute of Standards and Technology in the USA: “Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction”.
