ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an attempt of identifying drivers of engineering education from sustainability viewpoint and subsequent analysis using a Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) tool. Chisholm reviewed the critical factors having significant effect on sustainability in engineering education. They reviewed different curriculum models so as to enhance sustainability in engineering education. Mulder discussed about strategic competencies for sustainable development of engineering education. They suggested that strategic competencies are very crucial for engineering student to provide incremental sustainable solution. Esparragoza et al. presented an initiative taken by an academic institute to introduce sustainability in engineering curriculum to evaluate sustainability of product throughout its life span. The proposed approach will help in comparing sustainability performance of different alternatives to find best alternative solution from sustainability viewpoint. Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) is a well-known and mostly used MCDM approach for prioritizing multiple criteria. AHP enables pairwise comparison of criteria and enablers by several experts to draw conclusion for prioritization of criteria and alternatives.
