ABSTRACT

This chapter identifies the situations where adaptivity is required at both system and system of systems levels for CPSs. Awareness is a preliminary requirement for being aware of the context and about the system itself. Awareness is composed of two main factors: context awareness, dealing with sensing the surroundings of the CPS, via a combination of sensors of different types, and self-awareness, where the sensors are geared towards offering information of the CPS itself, such as performance monitors, power/ energy sensors, fault detectors or similar. The adaptation loops have been identified at two levels: at individual CPS level and at CPSoS level. The monitoring aspect has been achieved by providing a consistent access method to monitors.
