ABSTRACT

To sense the spectrum in cognitive networks is an important aspect due to various complications occurs between end users, particularly when the transmission is orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). The cognitive radio (CR) technology is the most effective approach used to observe the confusion between spectrum utilization and spectrum scarcity. The fundamental approach to sense the spectrum is energy detection approach in OFDM technology due to its simplicity and has been widely used in CR. However, this approach is very much uncertain in the presence of noise. To avoid this drawback, another approach of OFDM was tested called “cyclostationary” to sense the spectrum, but this type of OFDM approach increases computational complexity for real-time applications. This chapter presents the enhanced and comparative analysis of OFDM spectrum sensing approaches in cognitive networks.
