ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book covers several selected advanced topics in the areas of power, radio frequency, and mixed-signal integrated circuits and systems. It focuses on the analysis and design of fast-transient and very-high-frequency switching converters. The book discusses the digital low-dropout regulators, which are indispensable in system-on-a-chip designs because they provide fast-transient response and good power supply ripple rejection. It analyzes the sub-sampling phase-locked loops, which is a low-power analog building block and enables low-noise frequency synthesis because of its high-loop-gain characteristics. The book introduces a high-performance hybrid analog-to-digital converters architecture with digitally-assisted techniques. It also focuses on realizing complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor mm-Wave power amplifiers towards more output power, higher efficiency and broader bandwidth. The book deals with ultra-low power Zigbee/Bluetooth Low Energy transmitters for internet-of-things applications, such as wearable or implantable healthcare monitoring.
