ABSTRACT

The new and extensive solicitation of Information Technology offers outstanding prospects to generate and drive novelties into the deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) solutions. Prior to the analysis of the status of transportation sectors in Africa before the adoption of ITS solutions, it is very imperative to define and explain the term ITS as applied in the fields of information communication technology and mobile development in general. Globally, Transportation predicaments have major impacts on the quality of life of all citizens in all nations, their environments and economies, and African countries are not exempted from these dilemmas. The Major Transportation Problems facing Ghana as a nation has to do with the deteriorated status of the transportation sector as a whole. There is the need for Ghana to integrate land use and transportation decisions better to gain cutting edge control and management over vehicular traffic congestions, sprawls, and the associated air quality problems in the urban and metropolitan areas.
