ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how information and communication technology (ICT) had been harnessed in Local Governments in Nigeria so far; how they were achieved and the possibilities the Push-ICT theory perspective offers in harnessing ICT in local government administration using Nigeria as a springboard to other African countries. The role of ICT in any level government administration revolves within the principle or notion of e-governance. ICT for communication tops the performance level in most local government areas in Nigeria. The various ICT initiatives of the Government of Nigeria and others are obvious display of the Push-ICT Theory approach through the use of Policies and other forms of coercion to ensure that ICT are readily available and fully harnessed for administrative purposes or governance. The local government is a tier of government that engages in activities that concerns the affairs of a public in a geopolitical entity.
