ABSTRACT

Hormones are responsible for homeostasis between organ systems as well as integration of the key primary messages sent from the brain to the intimately connected cells throughout the body. Remember, the brain is the essential monitoring center that acts like a rheostat and is responsible for initiating the message and receiving the feedback to control both organ-to-organ and brain-to-organ communication. The final result is maintenance of health and optimal quality of life. Hormone therapy should be accomplished in an overall general restorative program that focuses on multiple hormonal replacements rather than a single-hormone modality approach. The present trend of stimulating or replacing growth hormone alone, without consideration of its effects on other hormones, is medically inappropriate. Certain hormones have been shown to be more effective in restoring and improving life quality, or functionality, for example, growth hormone, dehydroepiandrosterone, testosterone, the estrogens and progesterone.
