ABSTRACT

The cosmetic surgery practice is unique, in many aspects, from other medical specialties and patient populations. It is for people seeking strictly elective services. The members of this group, in general, can afford the procedures that we as cosmetic surgeons and physicians offer. The present profile of a successful cosmetic surgical practice is one in which the cosmetic surgeon sees a regular number of patients entering his or her active patient database along with an ongoing continued number of earlier cosmetic surgical patients returning over a similar period of time. The ongoing success of skin care products and services can be viewed as the successful model for encouraging the patients to return to the physician who performed the initial surgery. The new model of cosmetic surgery should include an anti-aging medicine service. In this model, the cosmetic surgeon takes a leap forward to treat not only the effects of aging but also the causes.
