ABSTRACT

In recent years, owing to industrialization and a progressively growing population there was an increased demand for energy storage devices. This demand places a superior strain on the advancement in the development of eco-friendly energy storage devices in recent years. The clean and sustainable renewable resources can occur through the development of proficient energy storage devices. The development of efficient energy storage devices is limited due to high cost and waste after usage (non-biodegradable). Research groups and industries focussed on the importance of discovering affordable, lightweight, flexible, and environmental hazardous chemical-free components (elimination of heavy metal ions and other toxins). One of the key unresolved challenges for energy storage devices is the selection of materials. The materials should exhibit the characteristics of biocompatibility and biodegradability, respectively. As a result, this outlook mainly provides a complete review of recent progress in techniques associated with transient, biodegradable, environment-friendly energy solutions, including supercapacitors, microsupercapacitors, batteries, transient electronics, fuel cells and solar cells. Thus also, this chapter discusses nanomaterials, which ultimately leave zero waste.
