ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the bibliometric analysis of the growing sign language recognition (SL) field from 1993 to early 2021. The study carried out the analysis and discussion on the publications extracted from the highly indexed Scopus database for various types of publications and their growth, prominent keywords, contribution of the authors, subject area, and funding agencies. The results of the systematic study were also demonstrated in the form of a network diagram, growth chart, word cloud, and geographical locations. All the diagrams are generated using Biblioshiny and VOSviewer open-source tool. Throughout the world, India, China, and the United States have enhanced cognizance and involvement in publications since 2017, specifically with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning techniques. This study’s results provide a precise view of the volume of efforts made in various countries and yearly advancements in the research. This bibliometric analysis signifies an increased involvement of researchers in communicating the hard of hearing and mute community and finding a technical solution through research.
