ABSTRACT

In the nanotechnology field, nanometric dispersed polymer composites (NDPCs) have become key area to develop as it covers a wide range of areas such as polymeric bio-nanomaterial, nano-electronics, and nanocomposite-based drug delivery systems, reinforced NDPCs, and many more. Compared to existing microfilled polymer composites, NDPC provides far better mechanical and chemical properties. In NDPC, there is a very large interface between macromolecules and nanosized heterogeneities of neat polymers that provide large reinforcement, high conductivity, and low flammability at very low nanofillers’ concentration. Recently, NDPC can be used in packaging industries for its dispersion at nanometer size. It enhances strength and modulus, decreases the permeability of gas, and most importantly increases resistance of the water. Additionally, the food packaging sector can supplement it with biologically active ingredients in accordance with their needs. In the medical sector also, NDPCs can be used as it consists of biofunctional properties that enable a huge potential for application in various industries. The key findings of the chapter are the major advantages of NDPC over existing materials or compounds that can effectively help to boost the medical sectors and food packaging industries. Recent trends in NDPCs can make a huge upgrade in human life in terms of enabling technology and boosting medical science.
