ABSTRACT
Waste management is currently one of the major challenges facing modern societies. In recent decades, the constant changes in society have promoted a substantial change in socioeconomic and demographic paradigms. The increase in population, combined with global consumerism and industrialization, has caused an exponential increase in waste generation. Beside resource’s misuse, if not properly managed, waste can cause air, soil, surface, and underground water pollution, causing serious environmental problems. To respond these challenges, the Upcycle4Biz project foresees the creation of a Marketplace-type digital platform – Upvalue - where companies can transact waste/by-products. The main objective of this paper is to present an overview on the advantages associated with the development of this platform.
