ABSTRACT

The campus landscape affects students’ mental health. Many scholars emphasize that the campus landscape should be linked with students' psychological perceptions. Soundscape perception plays an important role in urban landscape planning. However, there were few pieces of research on the soundscape in the campus environment. Although some studies have discussed the restorative perception of students by a soundscape, they are confined to a single environment type. In two sites at Hainan University, the Perception Restorativeness Scale was used to measure the feelings of students regarding the campus soundscape. The paired-samples T-test and the independent-samples T-test were used to analyze the experimental data. It was concluded that the soundscape in the campus landscape had positive effects on relieving students' negative emotions, and the campus landscape with similar visual elements had little difference in the recovery benefits in a short period. This paper provides suggestions for the planning and management of the campus soundscape.
