ABSTRACT

The urban heat island effect, as one of the major characteristics of a modern city, is becoming an increasingly serious problem in most cities. Based on the current status of heat island effect research, the ecological theory of urban landscape plants, and analysis of the climate data of the suburbs of Beijing and the city proper, this paper studied the mitigation of the urban heat island effect by urban greens. The study results show that the urban landscape, as one of the important measures to effectively reduce the urban heat island effect, can greatly improve urban surface thermodynamic properties. Reasonable green construction and vegetation kinds can supply all of the benefits of the urban landscape. The results show that reasonable layout can enhance the function of regional green space to mitigate the heat island effect. This study may increase the intensity of urban landscape garden plants in Beijing, promote attention to their environmental benefits, and offer some reference for the evaluation of the ecological garden city.
