ABSTRACT

The transition of the global energy system requires rapid adoption of renewable energy in all types of energy use. Thermal energy storage technologies can help integrate high shares of renewable energy into power generation, industry and agriculture. Thermal energy storage is a key technology for efficient energy use. Applications of phase change materials for thermal energy storage have proven to have unprecedented efficiency. Their use can reduce system size and cost, providing greater thermal storage capacity and the ability to be used as a thermal management tool. In this study, two solar heating systems respectively with sensible and latent heat storage are assessed and investigated for the heating of a hydroponic agricultural greenhouse system.
