ABSTRACT

Due to its widespread use in producing electricity and thermal energy, solar energy is crucial to realizing the goal of zero carbon emissions. A study by the International Energy Agency (IEA) demonstrates that by 2050, approximately 45% of the energy used in the world will be produced by solar array installations and thermal energy storage techniques, which are also popular at the industrial level. Solar dryers, water heating systems, and solar cookers are applications that utilize solar thermal energy, which is cheap and easily available. This chapter describes the industrial uses of solar thermal energy on a modest scale, notably those that include the storage of energy as sensible heat, chemical energy, and latent heat.
