ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology has been widely applied in the field of crop production through improvement in sustainable growth and crop protection through the application of insect pest management. Crop improvement is yet another field which is very crucial for the sustainable development of the agriculture sector. The aim of this chapter is to emphasize the role of nanotechnology in the field of crop improvement. The most studied and common aspect in nanotechnology is targeted drug delivery which again can be utilized in the field of genetic engineering that requires targeted delivery of genetic material. Here we have also compared the conventional breeding approaches with the molecular approach and how they are beneficial for the agriculture production system. The interventions of nanotechnology in the field of crop improvement cannot remain unacknowledged as in the case of other aspects in agriculture.
