ABSTRACT

In today’s world, agro-industry needs to use more cutting-edge technology to achieve higher levels of productivity and greater sustainability of agricultural production. The more advanced applications of nanotechnology offer opportunities in agricultural research with revolutionary nanotools for genetic engineering, rapid pathogen detection, nanoproteomics, increasing the rate of photosynthesis, chloroplast engineering and improving the shelf life of fruits and vegetables, among others. Due to its extremely small size and high precision, nanotechnology is ideally suited to monitor an essential agricultural control process. Nanotools based on nanomaterials, nano-formulations, nanocomposites and nanosensors have shown practical implementation in smart farming systems. This chapter focuses on advanced applications of nanotechnology in different aspects of research.
