ABSTRACT

It is acknowledged that nanotechnology has received a lot of attention in the last few years due to its numerous uses in several sectors such as agriculture production, livestock sector, medicine, health diagnostics and pharmaceuticals in an eco-friendly way. However, nanotechnology has a significant impact on agriculture as it increases crop yield and fulfils the demand for food shortage through different nanoformulations including nanopesticides, nanofertilizers and nanobiosensors. The latter are essential for identifying physical and chemical variations, monitoring bioactive molecules and any biological changes in plant cells, the quantification of harmful and polluting compounds in the environment and in agriculture industry. Although nanobiosensors represent such an excellent innovative technology, we mainly discuss in this chapter the importance of nanobiosensors in crop production and agricultural by-products.
