ABSTRACT

Mentha rotundifolia (L.) Huds. is a widely distributed, perennial, aromatic herb reported from major parts of world. Being important member of the family Lamiaceae, it has common names like “apple mint” or “green apple”. M. rotundifolia plant parts are frequently used against skin pathogens, digestive and respiratory disorders. M. rotundifolia is rich source of phenolics, flavonoids, carotenoids alkaloids, leucoanthocyanins, iridoids, saponins, anthocyanins, aldehydes and tannins. Essential oil is obtained from all plant parts with predominance of rotundifolone. M. rotundifolia revealed antimicrobial, antioxidant, insecticidal, anti-inflammatory, and acetylcholinesterase inhibitory potential.
