ABSTRACT

Ocimum kilimandscharicum Gürke or camphor basil, is a perennial shrub up to 2 m tall and belongs to the family Lamiaceae. It is extensively grown in the tropics and distributed in East Africa, India, and Thailand. Traditionally, O. kilimandscharicum is used to treat cold, cough, abdominal pain, measles, 188and diarrhea. The major essential oil components in O. kilimandscharicum include camphor, 1,8-cineole, linalool, limonene, etc. O. kilimandscharicum also contains apigenin-7-O-neohesperidoside, quercetin, turkesterone, fisetin, apigenin, chrysin, lupeol, stigmasterol, friedelin, α-amyrin acetate, and n-octacosonoic acid. O. kilimandscharicum showed antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, neuroprotective, antidiarrheal, and antimicrobial properties.
