ABSTRACT

Anisomeles malabarica R.Br. ex Sims belongs to Lamiaceae family. It is aromatic, perennial plant and distributed in Southeast Asia and Tropical Australia. This plant is commonly used in Ayurveda, Unani, Traditional Chinese and Korean medicine. Several investigators reported the presence of bioactive compounds, which include terpenoids, alkaloids, saponins, carbohydrates, tannins, flavonoids, and amino acids. These compounds have antidiabetic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiepileptic, antilarvicidal and anticancer activities in vitro and in vivo models. In this review, we have discussed the phytochemicals in A.malabarica and their biological activities. Bioactive compounds of A. malabarica can be potential therapeutic agents for the treatment of diabetes, inflammation, microbial infections and cancers.
