ABSTRACT

Leucas aspera L. belongs to family Lamiaceae. It is a common aromatic herb found in India. It is branched, annual herb with a height of 15–60 cm with erect, stout and quadrangular stems. In several traditional medicines, it is used to treat cough, cold, painful swellings, wound, and skin disorders. It is also useful to treat the snake bite. Active compounds found in various plant parts showed significant medicinal potential. Variety of phytoconstituents such as triterpenoids, phenolics, flavonoids, glycosides, alkaloids, steroids, cardiac glycosides and diterpenes have been reported from the plant. Seed oil contains several fatty acids such as palmitic acid, stearic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and linolenic acid. L. aspera possesses several potent biological activities like antioxidant, antibacterial, cytotoxic, larvicidal, antifungal, anticancer, anti-inflammatory etc.
