ABSTRACT

The present chapter has focused its attention on the traditional uses and pharmacological effects of Boswellia species in various biological systems. It’s a well-appreciated plant resource for its aromatic gum resin, which is preferably grown in drought and open woods and restricted in its distribution and constrained to a few countries. These species yield resinoids, which possess high market value and become a source of income in drought-prone areas. Moreover, a few of the species were highly threatened and needed its conservation and sustainability during the gum extraction. Among the 24 authenticated species, 12 species are being used in the preparation of several medicinal products based on the in vitro, in vivo, or in silico (docking), patent studies. However, many other species are not yet fully explored scientifically and needs attention by the emerging scientists. Here in, we have discussed the biological activities of certain species of Boswellia, which are published and cited.
