ABSTRACT

The spatial and institutional context of Thailand results in specific land management and spatial planning challenges in Thailand. There are multiple layers of legislation and regulation which makes formulation a national spatial plan complex and often contradictory. This chapter highlights these conflicts using situational analysis, which describes the situational maps, the social arenas, and the positional maps. Additionally, it describes the sources and organisational mandate for the provision of geospatial information in Thailand. From this analysis one can derive where and how the national spatial plan can be developed and what type of problems may arise in the course of doing so.
