ABSTRACT

In this paper, the fire simulation software PyroSim is utilized to simulate the exterior wall fire of a five-story old residential building in Beijing. Five working conditions shall be set according to the arrangement of the fire separation belt. The time of flame spreading to the top floor of residential buildings was studied under the different arrangements of fire barriers. The results show that the time of flame spreading to the top layer can be prolonged by 121.43% by centrally arranging a “fire isolation layer”. During the reconstruction of the old residential area, if there is a residential building with corners, the use of fire-proof materials should be increased at the corners, and can be centrally arranged as a “fire isolation layer”, which can not only ensure safety but also facilitate construction to the greatest extent.
