ABSTRACT

Jingjiang basin is rich in natural resources, fertile soil, and a pleasant climate. In the middle reaches of Changjiang River, it twists and turns with frequent floods since antiquity, affecting the living standards of citizens and the development of economics. Various projects of flood control have been carried out, including levee construction, flood-diversion project, water conservancy project, and cutting and straightening project. Satellite earth observation and remote sensing techniques are used to view alternations of watercourses in the most essential project of cutting and straightening directly. Principles of projects are introduced, as well as contributions to the flood control project. Though all the projects have played a great role in flood control work, several existing problems are proposed with appropriate solutions that can be referred to the further development of flood monitoring and control. In this article, the developing satellite earth observation and remote sensing technology are introduced and the advance of projects that are done to the flood control work is analyzed.
