ABSTRACT

In various applications, Wireless Sensor Networks enable mankind to communicate with the environment. Sensor networks were at one time considered as a part of the physical infrastructure for the Internet of Things. To favour such a situation, WSN is required to be self- organization and adaptable for environment change. The motes in WSN have tiny energy, computation and transmission. So energy consumption is the primary constraint. Clustering is the one of the proven method to prolong the lifetime of nodes. Even so cluster leaders utilize much energy than others, it also affect overall energy consumption of WSN. It is a big challenge to select appropriate cluster leader selection algorithms for scalable networks. In this paper, proposed Leader Selection Algorithm LSA to reduce the energy consumption. Cluster leader is elected dynamically based on real environment parameters instead of constant or random variables. In this algorithm we choose less but enough number of leaders for network, it reduce node involved in data transmissions. This not only minimizes overall energy consumption but also costs of total number of transmission nodes. The simulation results point out that the new algorithm increases the network life effectively for various node density and distance.
