ABSTRACT

Allamanda blanchetii of Apocynaceae family is an ornamental plant commonly known as purple Allamanda. Allamanda blanchetii is available as a garden ornamental shrub in subtropical and tropical regions. Native to Caatinga, a semi-arid region in north-eastern Brazil, it is also grown in Singapore, Laos, Puerto Rico and India. Plumericin and iso-plumericin and 5,6-dimethoxycoumarin are as main chemical constituents of Allamanda blanchetii. Various studies have shown that the potential activity is antioxidant, cytotoxic, thrombolytic, membrane stabilising, antimicrobial, anti-cancer and HIV infection. Traditional medicine system shows the extract of floral part, leaves, latex, stem and roots are used for the pharmacological action and therapeutic value. This review article reveals the pharmacological activity of different parts of Allamanda blanchetii.
