ABSTRACT

A numerical investigation of the ballistic impact of a lead core ball of 7.62 × 51 mm with brass casing on a UHMWPE composite panel is presented. The body armor panel consists of a hard armor panel and a soft armor panel. The hard armor panel is composed of UHMWPE composite and the soft armor panel is composed of UHMWPE fabric and hyper-elastic foam. A simulation study was conducted using Ansys Autodyn, and material models for various materials such as composite, foam, and clay were validated. Experimentally obtained back face deformation obtained on clay was matched with numerical simulation.
