ABSTRACT

To take full advantage of the MIMO system, multi-sensor cooperation using energy efficient network coding thus forming virtual MIMO for WBAN is proposed for sleep apnoea monitoring system in this chapter. The principal idea of Network Coding is that each node in the network combines previously received packets and forwards the combination to neighbouring nodes, rather than storing and forwarding individual packet. This leads to fewer transmissions and thus helps to save transmission and reception energy. One of the research challenges in wireless sleep apnoea monitoring system is that the fading effect should be reduced in dynamic environment. Cooperative communications (virtual MIMO) is a strategy where users not only transmit their own encoded information but also relays re-encoded versions of other users’ information to a common base station. Sensor nodes mostly use of Industrial, Scientific and Medical band which gives free radio, huge spectrum allocation and global availability.
