ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of a novel self-cascode configuration (SCC) operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) for use in a bandgap reference voltage (BGR) circuit. It reviews BGR and self-cascode amplifier circuits. A novel self-cascode configuration (SCC) amplifier is employed in a bandgap reference voltage circuit. The chapter describes the principle of the bandgap reference circuit and system level requirements. It explains the Malcovati BGR and focuses on the design of a SCC-OTA amplifier. An analysis of the noise contribution of the proposed SCC-BGR is discussed. The chapter compares the SCC-BGR with the Miller-BGR and demonstrates how the SCC-BGR can effectively reduce the noise performance of the BGR circuit. It concludes by summarising the SCC-OTA noise performance.
