ABSTRACT

This work is related to the MPFI and GDI spark ignition engines using conventional gasoline. This work is performed experimentally on single-cylinder MPFI engine and multi-cylinder GDI engine for better understanding the performance parameters and emission characteristics of MPFI and GDI engines. In this work, all the performance parameters were checked on test rigs along with data acquisition system for better understanding how gasoline fuel works under variable speeds and variable loads. This work is giving the idea of engine power, torque, BMEP (Brake mean effective pressure), BSFC (Brake Specific Fuel Consumption), and efficiencies of the engine using two fuel injection technologies, namely MPFI and GDI. The engine geometrical properties are kept as same as that for test rig. The operating parameters were varied for better understanding how engine test rig performs under variable load. All the performance parameters were checked experimentally on MPFI engine with variable speeds and variable load. The brake power, indicated power, and various efficiencies (like volumetric efficiency, thermal efficiency, and mechanical efficiency) were also checked.
