ABSTRACT

Nanotechnology utilizes nanoparticles which are classified into liposomes (50–1000 nm), polymeric nanoparticles (20–250 nm), dendrimers (1–10 nm), inorganic nanoparticles (1–8 nm), and hydrogels (50–150 nm). These are based on the components used in their preparation and their structures. Nanotechnology has been widely used in the preparation of pharmaceutical formulations containing active pharmaceutical ingredients including herbal drugs, synthetic drugs, semisynthetic drugs, and peptide drugs. In this chapter, the application of nanotechnology in the development of herbal formulations and in the treatment of various disease conditions such as cancer are described.
