ABSTRACT

Modern advancements in artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things plays a vital role in the growth of smart cities. Both of these are based on applications such as smart healthcare, transportation, system infrastructure, environmental management, governance, sustainability and quality of life. Intelligent and effective solutions for numerous elements of urban or rural life may be provided by smart cities employing a variety of IoT technologies that are operated with better services. The IoT also provides access to a number of inventive and comprehensive applications for smart cities, which significantly contribute to lowering energy consumption and other environmental consequences. In this chapter, adaptive approaches are proposed based on IoT, such as smart home automation, smart transportation, smart health services, energy optimization, etc. IoT has recently been able to simplify more complex and widespread applications adopted among smart cities. Decision making in smart cities is difficult since there are many direct and indirect dimensional characteristics. Therefore the present chapter emphasizes smart cities’ major segment, “smart mobility,” along with its positive impacts. Smart cities are facing many problems globally, and many possible solutions are there. Data collection, data analysis, and decision making are the key elements to improve smart mobility, which offers a framework for making choices in all smart cities.
