ABSTRACT

The collection rate of e-waste is low in most of the countries except Switzerland, the United States and a few nations of Europe. The major hurdle in the collection system of e-waste is the lack of live information. The data about the kind of e-waste being generated, where it is being generated, where to be collected, who will take care of it and how to transport it to the authorized dismantlers and recyclers is not efficiently managed. The reasons include the need for huge manpower to supervise all the activities and lack of economic viability. Therefore, it is the need of the hour to use an efficient management system that keeps track of the e-waste at different stages of its movement to the concerned stakeholders. Internet-based monitoring through IoT has a huge potential to serve this purpose. The present chapter highlights the inherent qualities of IoT-based e-waste management systems and a few success stories from different locations.
