ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on health care, social life, and the economy on a global scale. Clearly, 5G driven technologies will play a key role in enabling ubiquitous and accessible digital medical services in pandemic situations and preparedness of the reappearance of COVID-19 disease in the post-pandemic era. These innovations are essential to the development of future smart healthcare systems. With the development of the healthcare industry, many applications are expected to generate large amounts of data in different formats and sizes. Special attention should be paid to end-to-end delay, bandwidth, delay, and the like, for such large and complex data. Existing communication technologies will have difficulty meeting the specifications of increasingly complex and time-sensitive healthcare applications in the future. Therefore, 5G networks have been planned and built to meet the different connectivity needs of healthcare applications on the Internet of Things (IoT). Smart medical networks supported by 5G are a combination of IoT devices that require better network performance and enhanced cellular coverage. This chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of 5G-supported smart healthcare solutions on the IoT. By classifying existing literature, a framework for 5G smart healthcare is proposed. Finally, with the IoT and 5G smart healthcare solution, many existing problems and study challenges are addressed here.
