ABSTRACT

Childhood obesity has become a global epidemic. It poses many serious risks to the health and wellbeing of the child. Obese children are more likely to grow up to be obese adults, according to various studies done globally. Many of the current services have minimal results and often involve multi-professional counseling that is costly and laborious. Monitoring the prevalence of childhood obesity is one important pillar in the fight against obesity. In the majority of Pacific Island countries, there is no proper monitoring and surveillance system which can give a clear picture of the prevalence rate of childhood obesity. The chapter contains an overview of the literature and the design of the qualitative study conducted in Pacific Island countries. The chapter also summarizes various interventions that used gamified wearables conducted in these countries and the major limitations identified by these studies. It also highlights the recommendations given by the researchers. In brief, these recommendations are realistic methods for obesity management: enticing game strategy, challenging incentives, and constructive education.
