ABSTRACT
The volume of medical data increases drastically day by day, which depends on the qualitative decision support system for analyzing and gaining knowledge from the data. Decision support systems (DSS) are the tools that are designed for examining the digital medical data for suggesting the next steps that need to be followed for treatments, extraction of dangerous or unfair medications, detection of symptoms, and so on. It is impossible by the physicians to analyze the clinical data manually and extract the knowledge from the data available. Hence, there is a need for the decision support system to analyze and integrate the useful information from the available data for effective decision support. The integration of DSS in the medial field improves the quality of medical care, eradication 120of adversarial events there by supporting the medical team members to provide efficient medications. The HealthIT.gov states that the clinical decision support system supports variety of decision support in the healthcare such as auto reminder and alert to the care taker of the patients, condition specific guidelines for medications, report summarization, diagnostic support, and so on. This chapter discusses about the decision support system and the knowledge representation in healthcare which plays a vital role in obtaining the proper knowledge and decision support on the wide range of available medical data.
