ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the integration of virtual cloud-based labs into the cybersecurity education curriculum, providing an enhanced learning experience for students. Students can strengthen their understanding of cybersecurity concepts by engaging in experiments, data collection, and practical application within fully interactive simulations. The primary objective of virtual cloud-based lab solutions is to deliver adaptable information technology environments to users.

In the modern information, network, and security training landscape, time and location are critical for participants. Recognizing this, numerous universities and institutions have offered remote students access to online classrooms and laboratories. However, there is a need to address complex concepts, particularly in network and security courses at the university level.

To bridge this gap, we conducted a pilot study on a modest scale, implementing a virtual cloud-based lab solution. This study aimed to facilitate the teaching and comprehension of complex topics in network and security courses. Additionally, we employed load testing methodologies to examine and evaluate the proposed solution’s performance thoroughly. Through this research, we aim to advance cybersecurity education by harnessing the potential of virtual cloud-based labs. These labs offer an innovative approach to enhancing the learning experience, enabling students to gain practical skills and knowledge in a simulated yet immersive environment. By analyzing the performance and efficacy of our solution, we provide insights and recommendations for further implementation and improvement in cybersecurity education.
